Halifax County United Soccer Club has been selected to represent Canada at the opening ceremonies for the 2008 Gothia Cup Soccer Tournament. Only one club from every participating country is chosen to act as flag bearers and ambassadors in the parade of countries. Last year over 70 countries participated in the event. The tournament plays host to over 1500 teams and 4000 games. It is a huge honor and privilege to be selected to represent your country.
The tournament is held every year in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden. The opening ceremonies are held at Ullevi stadium, the largest stadium in Scandinavia. Ullevi was the host stadium for the 1958 World Cup Finals. Last years event was attended by over 50,000 spectators! Highlights include a concert by famous European performers, and a fireworks display.
The club will be represented by 28 boys aged 10-12. They will be representing their province and country by proudly displaying the maple leaf and various symbols and traditions of the Nova Scotia culture.
