On our first full day in Gothenburg, Sweden, we went to the Torslandavallen soccer club to play a few exhibition games. This community soccer facility has 2 full sized grass fields, an indoor facility, a pro shop, change rooms and more. We were all in awe. To top it off, the weather was perfect, blue sky with just a little wind.
The HCU U12 team played first against the Torslanda IK '96 Team (all players born in 1996). Halifax County United were up 2-0, playing intensely and wisely, but then, the lack of sleep (after a 19 hour journey and jet lag!) crept in and the Torslanda team scored two beautiful goals. The final score was 2-2 (Merlin, Tufts).
Next came the HCU U11 team who also played the Torslanda IK '96 Team. The HCU team stood up fantastically to an older team. With the crowd cheering them on Cody Dilnot-Reid scored 2 goals and Liam Gilbert 1. After a good effort, the Torslanda team beat HCU 4-3.
Afterward, the coaches and players led everyone to the beach, where we had a barbeque and went swimming. Thanks again to the Torslanda IK soccer club for hosting this great event. Three cheers of Hip Hip Hooray!
