| Victoria Highlanders FC starting goalkeeper Thomas Lindley (Tantallon, NS) will miss the next two matches after suffering a concussion during training on Monday evening.
Lindley, who has enjoyed a strong early season with the Highlanders, suffered the concussion after colliding with Steve Scott during a challenge in the air.
"It was a routine high ball for Thomas to handle, but after the collision he fell ackwardly on his shoulder first then his head, which knocked him right out," remarked Head Coach Colin Miller. "Steve (Scott) was absolutely devasted, and he was been very uncomfortable with the idea that he put thomas out of action. Unfortunately it is the cold reality of football, these types of injuries occur. What is important now is that we don't rush Thomas back onto the fied. His full recovery is paramount and we will support him one hundred percent."
Lindley has not trained with the team since suffering the injury and will be out of the lineup for the upcoming weekend. It is currently unknown how long Lindley will be out of the lineup, as he continues to receive treatment from the Highlanders medical staff.
Due to Thomas' injury, Daniel Kilpatrick will step in as the first team keeper and reserve team goalie Hide Ozawa will fill in as a backup.
"I had a good long chat with Dan (Kilpatrick) last night, and he now understands that the number one jersey is his to lose," said MIller. "That being said, we are confident in his abilities. He is an experienced CIS goalkeeper with a strong team (University of Victoria) that is being well coached by Bruce Wilson. We know that we are in good hands, and now he gets his opportunity. As is life in football, when one door closes another one opens up for someone else."
Highlanders face the Portland Timbers U-23 on June 5th at 7PM, and the Tacoma Tide on June 7th at 4PM. Game day tickets are still available and are both being played at the City Centre Stadium. |
