Coaching The Coach

Rating:

When you first pick this book up, it may appear as your typical soccer drill book. Lots of nice diagrams and complicated explanations with tons of drills that have no real practical purpose whatsoever.

In actual fact this book is hardly a drill book at all. Yes it does contain some drills, but it is much more than that. This book is a progression from the drills we are use to finding in other books and on the internet. This book will help you take your current drills, and new ones you will find to the next level.

This book highlights what drills are for, to help the coach make his players better at the game of soccer. It outlines the coaching points that are the essence of player development, and helps show you how to deliver them.

The drills are simple, and have easy progressions that can be used for players of all age levels and abilities. Soccer is a simple game, yet we try to complicate it with our coaching. This book will make you think about what is actually important. The little things, the simple details.

Topics include: Warm up, dribbling, running with the ball, passing, defending, turns, shooting, heading, goalkeeping, small sided games, and planning a session.

This book is a must for any parent coach who is just starting out in the game. It will give you the basic framework and tools that you will need to have a successful season from day one. It will also lay a solid foundation for anyone who is looking to take their coaching to the next level.

If you are an advanced coach, this book will give you a good lesson in "back to the basics" training and serve as a reminder of good habits that you may have lost along the way.

Whether you are a beginner coach, or an advanced coach this book will get you thinking about soccer and your current coaching methods and what you can do to improve them.
